Collapsing Sub-critical Bubbles *

چکیده
In the standard scenario, the electroweak phase transition is a first order phase transition which completes by the nucleation of critical bubbles. Recently, there has been speculation that the standard picture of the electroweak phase transition is incorrect. Instead, it has been proposed that throughout the phase transition appreciable amounts of both broken and unbroken phases of SU(2) coexist in equilibrium. I argue that this can not be the case. General principles insure that the universe will remain in a homogenous state of unbroken SU(2) until the onset of critical bubble production. ∗ To appear in Physics Letters B

Delivery of antibacterial nanoparticles into dentinal tubules using high-intensity focused ultrasound.
INTRODUCTION High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) produces collapsing cavitation bubbles. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of collapsing cavitation bubbles to deliver antibacterial nanoparticles into dentinal tubules to improve root canal disinfection. METHODS In stage 1, experiments were performed to characterize the efficacy of collapsing cavitation bubbles to deliver the min...
متن کاملAvalanches of popping bubbles in collapsing foams.
We report acoustic measurements of popping bubbles during the collapsing of aqueous foams. The sound pattern is analyzed using classical methods of statistical physics. It is found that membrane rupture concerns a wide variety of situations: small and large membranes at the air/foam interface. Avalanches of popping bubbles are put into evidence. Time durations in between successive pops seem to...
متن کاملKinetics of Sub-critical Bubbles and the Electroweak Transition
We investigate the role of large amplitude sub-critical thermal fluctuations in the dynamics of first order phase transitions. In particular, we obtain a kinetic equation for the number density of sub-critical fluctuations of the broken-symmetric phase within the symmetric phase, modeled as spherical bubbles, and solve it analytically for temperatures above the critical temperature. We study th...

Recent observations of growing and collapsing bubbles in flows over axisymmetric headforms have revealed the complexity of the 'micro-fluid-mechanics ' associated with these bubbles (van der Meulen & van Renesse 1989; Brianqon-Marjollet et al. 1990; Ceccio & Brennen 1991). Among the complex features observed were the bubble-tobubble and bubble-to-boundary-layer interactions which leads to the s...
